A: Yes — families are very welcome here.
The cottage is thoughtfully set up for those travelling with little ones, with a travel cot and mattress (just bring your own bedding), a high chair and a bath chair all available. A stair gate is fitted at the bottom of the stairs, with a second gate available if needed, and removable window safety bars can be provided on request.
Outside, there’s space to play, along with buckets, spades and fishing nets for little adventurers to enjoy.
A: It is — we’re always happy to welcome up to two well-behaved dogs.
To help everyone settle in, you’ll find a dog bowl, feeding mat, and a small welcome pack with treats and poo bags. There’s plenty of room downstairs for your own dog beds too.
We simply ask that dogs stay on the ground floor and out of the carpeted upstairs areas and bedrooms. The cottage is enjoyed by guests both with and without dogs, so we really appreciate your help in keeping it fresh and comfortable for everyone.
A: The cottage sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms — a double room, a twin room, and a bunk room suitable for both adults and children.
A: As a traditional cottage, there are a few uneven floors, small changes in level, and stairs to the first floor, so it isn’t suitable for wheelchair access.
That said, the staircase isn’t steep, and there’s a toilet on both the ground floor and upstairs, which can be helpful for those who prefer not to use the stairs too often.
A: We’ve included a range of thoughtful touches to help you settle in comfortably, including:

A log burner starter pack (logs, kindling, firelighters and matches)
-
A welcome basket with tea, coffee, sugar, hot chocolate, speciality teas, biscuits, and a some lovely local treats

A: Yes — you’ll have fast Starlink Wi-Fi (200 Mbps+), ideal for streaming or the occasional bit of work.
Mobile signal in the village can be limited, which many guests find is a welcome excuse to properly switch off and enjoy the slower pace of things.
A: The cottage has its own private, enclosed back garden — a lovely spot to relax.
From March to October, there’s outdoor seating for six, perfect for long lunches, evening drinks or simply enjoying the fresh air. We have a large kettle style BBQ and tools for you to use, along with a parasol, outdoor cushions and two deck chairs.
There are a few steps leading up to the seating area, and surfaces can be a little slippery after rain, so it’s worth taking things gently.
A: Yes — there’s free, unrestricted parking available on the road directly outside the cottage.
You’re also welcome to load and unload on the track beside the cottage; we just ask that it’s kept clear as it provides access for a neighbouring property.
A: Like many older cottages, this one comes with plenty of character — and a few quirks to match:
-
Floors can be a little uneven, with small level changes between rooms
-
The staircase is slightly narrower than you might be used to
-
You may hear the village church clock chiming during the day
-
Being in the beautiful North York Moors National Park, it’s not unusual to see sheep wandering through the village, so a little extra care when driving or walking dogs is always a good idea
A: You’re welcome to arrive any time after 4pm, with easy self check-in using a key code.
On your departure day, we kindly ask that you leave by 10am so we can prepare the cottage for the next guests.
A: Yes, short breaks of two nights or more are very welcome outside of peak periods.
During busier times such as Easter and Christmas, we do ask for a minimum stay of seven nights. If you have specific date requirements please ask we are always happy to try to accommodate our guests.
A: Of course — it’s perfect for cosy evenings.
We provide everything you need to get started; just please burn wood only (no coal or fire blocks). Additional logs are easy to purchase locally.
A: The Rayburn is no longer in use, but the cottage is kept warm with a modern oil-fired combi boiler and radiators throughout.
A: Yes — you’re very well placed for eating out. The Blacksmiths Arms is less than a minute’s walk away and is perfect for both lunch and supper (and it’s dog friendly too).
You’ll also find the lovely Grange Hotel in the village, serving lunches, delicious afternoon teas and relaxed evening meals.
Both have inviting outdoor seating areas, ideal for making the most of warmer days.
A: Caring for the environment is really important to us. Being located in such a special setting, we aim to make thoughtful, responsible choices wherever we can to help protect the landscape for future generations.
