Our Beautiful New Kitchen Floor

What started as a “simple” job turned into anything but!
As we arrived at the cottage on Saturday, my husband said, “I’m really looking forward to a visit where someone else is doing the work.” That didn’t quite go to plan.
What we expected to be a straightforward new floor quickly became a much bigger project. Once we got started, it was clear the floor needed far more work than we had anticipated — including a new damp course, screed, flooring, and a significant amount of joinery.
A huge thank you to Blaine Yorkshire Flooring and Joinery, who did such an excellent job, working evenings and going above and beyond to get everything completed.
There were some late nights — we were still filling wood at 1am this morning — followed by a 8am trip to the DIY shop for “a few bits,” but we got there in the end.
At times it felt like a mix between DIY SOS and Changing Rooms — slightly chaotic, mildly stressful, but also very satisfying.
Now everything is painted, finished, and looking fantastic, just in time for our next guests arriving tomorrow… I did enjoy a couple of minutes basking in its glory!
We’re so pleased with how it’s turned out, it’s gorgeously solid and so neat. Our kitchen floor has been completely transformed.
