Where’s your favourite North Yorkshire spot at this time of year?

One of our favourite seasonal spots at this time of year is the walk up to Lastingham Rock and down towards Ellers Beck — when everything is bright green, peaceful and full of birdsong and wildlife.

From The Green, Lastingham. North York Moors., turn left onto Front Street and then left again onto the High Street, following the path up onto the moors towards Lastingham Rock. From there, head downhill towards Ellers Beck.

This has honestly been one of our favourite places for the last ten years. There’s now a little bridge across the beck, but we still spend hours there every summer paddling in the water, having picnics and pond dipping with jars to see what wildlife we can find before carefully returning everything back again. It’s brilliant for little ones and somehow keeps everyone entertained for hours.

You can also combine it with a lovely circular walk back into Lastingham afterwards - the return route from Ellers Beck back to the village is around 1-1.5 miles and makes the whole walk roughly 3-4 miles in total, perfect for a relaxed family wander.

It’s one of those simple Yorkshire places that somehow never loses its magic for us, no matter how many times we return.
