The North York Moors National Park have just launched a fantastic initiative and as part of the Champions Group we have been lucky enough to get a first glimpse of the scheme.
The ‘Make the Difference’ scheme has been created to allow visitors to contribute directly to vital conservation and education work within the National Park, meaning you can help protect and support the North York Moors National Park for generations to come.
There are three key areas that you can donate to:
Each scheme details how each donation could be used and allows for a contributions to suit any budget.
As a small business that is lucky enough is part of the North York Moors National Park Champions scheme, we will be supporting this initiative. You may have heard of the term ‘responsible tourism’ and this is something we are absolutely committed to.
…What is responsible tourism and why is it important?
It involves actions from both tourists and businesses to ensure tourism benefits local communities, preserves the environment, and respects local cultures. Essentially, it's about creating better places for both residents and visitors.
…How do we do this?
We all have a part to play when enjoying the North York Moors National Park and ensuring it stays preserved for the future. It’s the little things that make a big difference- taking your litter home after a picnic, not parking on verges or blocking gates, being responsible when walking our dogs, being aware of the danger of fire on the moors, there are lots of little ways we all can be conscientious when visiting. The North York Moors National Park website has a great section called ‘Share With Care’ where you can find out more.
As a business, we have a huge part to play in this, making sure our guests treat the area with care is just one part of our responsibility. We work closely with local producers and businesses to ensure that we celebrate and promote all that is so special and unique about the North York Moors. We are working hard to reduce our carbon footprint by sourcing supplies and products locally. We also support local events and take an active role in the community we are part of.
Another aspect of our work is being part of the North York Moors National Park ‘Friendly Networks’ and as a ‘walking friendly’ accommodation provider we encourage our guests to really make use of all the wonderful local walking opportunities available to them to explore the North York Moors National Park. Business who've joined the walking friendly network have gone the extra mile to offer specific activities, facilities, information and services to enhance your walking experience in the North York Moors.
As the ‘Make a difference’ scheme progresses we will be adding more information on how we will be supporting it and in particular ‘paths for everyone’ theme.
