We’re absolutely delighted to share some wonderful news: The Green Lastingham has officially been recognised as a North York Moors National Park Dark Skies Friendly accommodation provider!

This recognition means a great deal to us— because it reflects our commitment to celebrating and protecting the incredible night skies that make the North York Moors so special.

A Community Effort: Lastingham Achieves Dark Skies Community Status

Even more excitingly, our village of Lastingham has recently been awarded Dark Skies Community status, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our fantastic community. Residents have come together to learn about responsible lighting, make improvements, and champion the importance of preserving our natural darkness.We’re so proud to be part of a village that cares so passionately about its environment.

Our Role as a Dark Skies Friendly Accommodation

As part of our Dark Skies Friendly commitment, we aim to help guests make the most of the stunning night sky above the moors. While we haven’t yet updated our outside lighting, we’re actively working on this with the Dark Skies Community team to ensure we meet best practices for responsible, low-impact illumination.

In the meantime, guests can still enjoy:

• Stargazing tips, resources, and information on upcoming celestial events

• Guidance on the best local spots to take in the night sky

• Support navigating Dark Skies Festival activities and experiences

• A quiet place to enjoy the darkness and the stars from the comfort of a deckchair and cosy blanket
